The Olga Korper Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings and drawings by Ron Shuebrook. The exhibition opens Saturday January 9th and will remain on view until Saturday February 6th. The opening will take place from 2-5pm on Saturday January 9th, and the artist will be in attendance.
Throughout his long and prolific career as an artist, Ron has sought to explore his own curiosities and ideas while paying respect to the aesthetic legacy of early 20th century modernist artists, like Mondrian, Motherwell, deKooning, and Guston. Ron has long believed that ideas carry weight, and good ideas hold an authority and power that transcends the passing fads of time. From this perspective, the artist approaches his work with a steady hand and critical eye, using charcoal on paper to create new, dynamic experiences which simultaneously direct the eye to the plane of the paper, and offer up new dimensions – windows and doors – which sweep the eye around into impossible depths like a visual rollercoaster, constantly attached to and attacking these velvety black surfaces.
