We joined collaborative duo Matt Donovan and Hallie Siegel for the reveal of their magnificent site-specific sculpture “Listen” at the Aga Khan Museum. At first glance, the sculpture appears as a jumble of upside-down words rising out of the Museum’s central infinity pool. But from the perfect vantage point, the message reveals itself through the water’s reflection “There is a voice that does not use words.” This moving poem is attributed to the 13th-century mystical poet Rumi. He encourages us to open our senses and experience that which lies just beyond our awareness. Listen to the calm breeze and the water’s ripple. Listen as your breath slows and you take a moment of solitude. Listen to your senses. Listen to your heart.
Congratulations Matt and Hallie, this work is a breathtaking experience, it is not to be missed!
