“Kelly Mark often makes work about endurance, compulsive repetition, hard work, things that go on and on. The circularity of It’s Just One God Damn Thing After Another reinforces the sense of the sentence itself: complaining of the trying tedium of repetition. Cycling in a closed circuit, the form of the text resembles that of the mythological Ouroboros, a serpent swallowing its own tail. The circle also suggests a wheel, or the stone that Sisyphus was condemned forever to roll uphill. These associations recall mundane frustrations with the “God-damned” endless labours of the underworld.” – Robin Metcalfe
